Edit your form and consent statement

Change the questions on your form, choose which are required, add or remove fields, and write the consent statement visitors tick before they send an enquiry.

Who can do this

Owners, admins and members of a workspace with FunnelCreative Commercial (or Pro). With Campaign Vault alone, you can edit the forms of funnels you installed from a pack. A Viewer can read a form but can’t change it.

Forms are edited on workspace funnels. A draft saved only in this browser can’t edit its form until you import it into your workspace. See Working without signing in, and importing browser drafts.

Before you start

Your funnel needs a form to collect enquiries. The recipe you started from decides whether there is one and what it asks first. You can’t add a form to a funnel that has none. See Recipes, audiences and page styles.

Open the form

  1. Open the funnel and stay on the Page design tab.
  2. In Sections, click the Form or Application form section.
  3. Under the section’s heading and introduction you’ll see Form fields, with the number of fields in brackets. Each field shows its question and its type.

There are four field types:

TypeWhat the visitor sees
Short answerA one-line text box.
Email addressA box for their email address.
Long answerA larger text box for a few sentences.
Choice listA list to pick one option from.

Change a question

For each field you can change:

  1. Question: the label visitors read above the box. Every field needs one, up to 200 characters.
  2. Help text: an optional hint shown under the question, up to 200 characters.
  3. Choices, one per line (choice lists only): type each option on its own line.
  4. Required: tick it if visitors must answer before they can send the form. Untick it to make the question optional. The published form marks optional questions with (optional).

Changes save on their own, like every other edit.

Add, move and remove fields

  1. To add a field, choose a New field type: Short answer, Long answer or Choice list.
  2. Click Add field. The new field goes at the end, is optional and is called “New question”. A new choice list starts with two options, “Option 1” and “Option 2”. Change them to your own words.
  3. Use the ↑ and ↓ buttons on a field to move it.
  4. Use × to remove a field.

You can’t add a second email field.

The email field

Every lead form keeps one Email address field, because it is how you reply to each enquiry.

  • It has no × button, so you can’t remove it.
  • Its Required box is always ticked and can’t be changed. It reads “Required (the email field always is)”.

Form limits

  • A form holds at most 12 fields and needs at least one.
  • Some funnels use a compact sign-up form. It holds at most 4 fields, to keep it short.
  • A choice list holds 1 to 20 options. Each option can be up to 200 characters, can’t be empty and must be different from the others.

When a change goes past a limit, the editor refuses it and says why. Your form stays as it was. The messages are:

  • “A form holds at most 12 fields.”
  • “This compact sign-up form holds at most 4 fields. Keep it short so more people finish it.”
  • “Question can’t be empty.” A question can be up to 200 characters, and the box stops taking characters there.
  • “Choices can’t be empty.” and “A choice list holds at most 20 options.”
  • Options can’t be empty., An option can be at most 200 characters. and Each option must be different.

A message about an empty box ends with “The last saved text is kept.”

The Add field button isn’t greyed out when the form is full. Clicking it shows the message instead.

While you type the choices, a blank line or a repeated option shows a message under the box until you fix it. When you leave the box, it goes back to the last saved choices.

Every lead form needs a consent statement before the funnel can be published. On the published page it sits beside a tick box that visitors tick themselves. The box is never ticked in advance, and the form can’t be sent until it is ticked.

A funnel you create from a recipe starts with no consent statement, so you need to add one before you publish. There are two ways.

In the editor

  1. Open the Form or Application form section.
  2. Below the fields, fill in Consent statement. It can be up to 1,000 characters and can’t be left empty.
  3. The note under the box says Visitors tick this box themselves; it is never pre-ticked.

If you empty the box, a red message says “Consent statement can’t be empty. The last saved text is kept.” When you leave the box, your last saved statement comes back.

From Launch setup

  1. Open Launch setup. The launch checks list the form with Has no consent statement. Visitors must be asked, with an unticked box, before they send their details.
  2. Click Add a consent statement.
  3. A box labelled Consent statement (shown beside an unticked box) opens with this suggested text: “I agree to be contacted about my enquiry. My details are used only to reply to it.”
  4. Change the text if you want to, then click Save statement (or Cancel).

Saving the statement saves a new version of your funnel, like any other edit.

What to write

  • Say what the visitor agrees to, in plain words: being contacted about their enquiry.
  • Say what you use their details for.
  • Keep it true. The consent statement is checked before publishing like the rest of your page, so it can’t promise a payment, booking or anything sent. See Honesty checks.

What happens next

Your form changes show in the preview straight away. The preview’s form is switched off, so you can’t send it there. Once you publish, visitors see your questions, and each enquiry they send arrives in Leads with their answers and a record of their consent. See Your lead inbox and CSV export.

Limits

  • One email field per form. It stays and stays required.
  • At most 12 fields per form, and at most 4 on a compact sign-up form.
  • Choice lists: 1 to 20 different options.
  • Field types: Short answer, Long answer, Choice list and the one Email address. There are no file uploads, date pickers, payment fields or hidden fields.
  • The consent statement is required and can be up to 1,000 characters.

If something goes wrong

  • The editor refuses a change: read the red message. It says which rule applies, and your form stays as it was.
  • Launch setup says the form has no consent statement: follow Write the consent statement.
  • Other problems: see Troubleshooting.
