# What your funnel collects: enquiries and promised next steps

> Every FunnelCreative funnel collects an enquiry, and its thank-you page states one fixed promised next step that you choose from a short list.

## What an enquiry is

A published FunnelCreative funnel has a landing page with a form. When a visitor sends the form, their answers are stored as a lead in your workspace. That is the whole transaction: the visitor has asked for something, and you follow up.

Every funnel collects one of these kinds of enquiry:

- interest (for example, interest in a workshop or a new product)
- a waitlist sign-up
- a demo request
- an application
- a quote request
- a general enquiry
- a request for a resource, such as a guide or checklist you provide

Sending the form does not take a payment, book a time, enrol anyone, create an account or trial, or send an email. Nothing else happens on its own. The one addition: on a funnel installed from a Campaign Vault download pack, the thank-you page also offers the file you attached, through a link that works for 30 minutes after the form is sent. ## The promised next step

Each funnel makes one promise about what happens after someone sends the form. You choose it on the **Business facts** tab, under the question **What happens after someone fills in the form?** The hint there says: **Your page will say exactly this. It never promises a payment, booking or email.**

You pick from a fixed list. You can't write your own promise. The list you see depends on the recipe your funnel was made from:

A few things to know about this list:

- Three of the promises share the label **Request received**: the demo request, the quote request and the resource request. Read the statement under each option to tell them apart.
- **Webinar to course** and **Product offer with optional upsell** offer only **Interest registered**.
- **Application to discovery call** offers only **Application received**.
- **Appointment requests**, **Quote requests**, **Consultation enquiries**, **Membership enquiries** and **Table enquiries** offer **Request received** (quote) or **Enquiry received**.
- **Software trial to activation** and **Waitlist sign-ups** offer **On the waitlist**, **Request received** (demo) or **Request received** (resource).
- The **Promised next step** is one of the three facts you must confirm before you can publish. See [Confirm your business facts](https://staging.funnelcreative.com/docs/confirm-your-facts.md).
- A thank-you page exists only on recipes that have a form. In this release three recipes have no form, so they can't be published or collect enquiries. The [recipe reference](https://staging.funnelcreative.com/docs/recipes.md) shows which ones.

## What visitors see on the thank-you page

After a visitor sends the form, the lead is stored first, and only then does the visitor see the thank-you page. The thank-you page shows, in this order:

1. the promise label, for example **Enquiry received**
2. your headline
3. the promise statement, word for word from the table above
4. your message
5. your steps under the heading **What happens next**, if you added any

On a Campaign Vault download pack, the thank-you page also has a link to the file you attached.

The promise label and statement always come from the fixed list. Your own wording on the thank-you page can't change them, and the [honesty checks](https://staging.funnelcreative.com/docs/honesty-checks.md) stop your headline, message and steps from saying that a payment, enrolment, booking or email happened. Keep your own wording in line with the promise you chose: the checks don't compare the two.

On the **Clear & professional** page style, the top of the landing page also shows one short line about what sending the form does not commit to. For example, a funnel that promises **Enquiry received** shows **Enquiring is free — nothing is booked or paid for**.

## What visitors see on the form

The published form checks each answer before anything is stored. When something is wrong, the page comes back with the visitor's answers kept, a summary headed **There is a problem**, and a message next to each field:

- **This field is required.**
- an email address that doesn't look like a real address gets a message showing the expected shape
- **This answer is too long. Please shorten it.**
- **Choose one of the listed options.**
- **Tick the box to agree before you send your details.**

Optional questions are marked **(optional)**. A drop-down list starts on **Choose an option**. The consent box is never ticked in advance.

Some messages are about the whole form rather than one field:

- **Something in the form didn’t look right. Check your answers and try again.** This appears, for example, when a page was left open for a long time. The page it comes back with is ready to send again.
- **Too many attempts in a short time. Nothing was saved. Please wait a moment and try again.** This appears when a form is sent very quickly after the page opens, or many times in a short period.
- **Your details could not be sent. Nothing was saved. Please try again in a moment.** This appears if storage fails for a moment.
- “This form is no longer accepting enquiries.” This appears when the funnel has been taken down, when an older version of the page has been replaced for a while, or while the workspace is scheduled for deletion. If a visitor double-clicks the button, or their browser sends the same form twice, only one lead is stored and they see the same thank-you page.

## What your funnel never does

A funnel's form and thank-you page stay within the enquiry:

- They never take a payment.
- They never confirm a booking, appointment or reservation.
- They never enrol anyone or give access to a course.
- They never create an account or start a trial.
- They never send an email to the visitor or to you.
